Each of us has known athletes and others from many walks of life with incredible potential and ability who sabotage themselves and self-destruct because of poor mental and emotional attitudes and behaviors.

Likewise, others with seemingly average and ordinary talents and gifts have risen to unbelievable levels of success, less because of knowledge or skill than inner qualities such as desire, commitment, focus and inspiration.

The ability to thrive and excel ultimately is in the Mind of the beholder. To this end, we come to know it is the arena of thoughts, emotions and beliefs which precede anything, athletic or otherwise, that each of us can or cannot do.

The language of the ego is a very different language than that of the soul. The ego spends its time defending and reacting; the soul loves and lives to create. The ego tries to dominate and bully; the soul already knows it is a winner. The ego has a fragile need for external validation; the soul has an inner strength with nothing left to prove. The ego seeks stimulation and non-stop mental chatter; the soul finds its strength in stillness and calm. The ego is fixated on problems of past and future; the soul trusts in the unfathomable power and unfolding of the eternal here and Now.
